As you may or may not know, this Friday, I will shut down my LA home completely, set my daughter up in her apartment in California, and will be loading up my little SUV with a few special belongings, three cats, a dog, tortoise, and my son and making our way to Minnesota.
This isn’t the first time I’ve taken a huge leap of faith in my life. In 2019 my kids and I sold almost everything we owned and spent a little time in South America and Mexico wandering.
I have always been a bit of a wanderer although being a full-time single mom to two kids has kept me tethered close to a home base for a very long time.
This next leap of faith potentially creates the opportunity for both of my children within the next year to be settled and on their own. One in college, and one moving into the next phase of her young adulthood.
Change is scary, and I’m not sure if my resilience to it is a coping mechanism or a pure love of adventure, maybe a little of both
I do know this feels different, in that there is no future plan other than the ones I am helping my children make for themselves. I have no idea what future awaits me. I’m leaving in a blank page and open to whatever new solo adventure shows up.
I’m a big planner and usually have a general idea of what’s going to happen over the next year or so, but this time all I know is I’m going to a state I’ve only ever been to once, that snows and is very cold in the winter mostly to settle my son. The things moms do for their kids…
This particular leap of faith has been blessed by many angels. It seems every time a challenge arises, BoB ( my nickname for the universe) finds a way to solve the problem.
Today I took my car in to get serviced for the big drive, and I have been carefully budgeting every step needed in order to get everything settled and get us on our way. My car service and repairs are more expensive than what I had hoped. Perhaps if I wasn’t planning on driving halfway across the country I might’ve let a few of them slide, but safety with all my beloveds on board is paramount.
And so I’m calling in the angels. I’d like to find a way to earn another $750 over the next few days.
