I’m no longer willing to identify as plus size. Because I don’t fit in a size 0 or two or four.
Because if you’re bigger than a pre-pubescent size girl in today’s society, you’re considered plus size.
Plus what?! Yes I have hips and breasts and after 2 babies (that were definitely plus sized birth- because even then, after a certain weight, they are “big babies”) I have a stomach. Oh, and I like food. I mean, pasta, and bread and cake. And I wanna be able to eat it without worrying that someone might look at me in judgment.
I’m tired of going into boutiques that don’t carry “plus size”.
For fucks sake, people, the average pant size of an American woman is 14.
And in the renaissance period, this would’ve been considered damn hot.
Alas, the patriarchy, so frightened, and afraid of women, it has even taken away our ability to exist in a body beyond that of a not quite teenage girl.
And any woman who shows up in the world with a realistic body, is reminded daily that she’s too big. Too much. Plus.
And then there are men who say they love “big” girls, as if we’re some sort of curious oddity to be ogled, they parade us around, as if we are a prize, and they must be special because they like us. We are reduced to a gimmick, a marketing niche. as if it’s rare to be an actual normal woman.
One might think this would make us feel special. As if being told, there’s not very very many people like you makes you unique. I don’t like this kind of unique and it’s not even true. In this case, I’m quite normal and I like it that way.
Why can’t women just have bodies? Why do women of a “certain size” need to be labeled as plus, or big.
It just seems women can never be without having to have some sort of label that sexualizes us simply for being.
And now, when we see, TV shows, and advertisements that represent what women actually look like, and have for a very long time, we reward them. We act as if it’s some sort of thing to be commended. “ Oh look, They hired a big girl.” We have to make a big deal out of saying isn’t she pretty. Well for one thing she is, and she represents a significant segment of the population of this planet that is also beautiful.
There has been a lot of talk about representation as there should be. I for one, I’m ready for the “Plus” to be removed when describing a woman. Unless of course it’s an invite to a party and she’s offered a plus one.
